The expected arrival today of a train from Munich will bring to 826 the number of persons assembled here in preparation for emigration to the United States on May 9.
The Army has done an excellent job in preparing a center for these emigrants and the additional thousands who are expected to leave Germany at the rate of several hundred each week when a regular schedule of ship sailings is arranged.
The staging area consists of a group of two-story stucco buildings which were formerly used as barracks for German marines. The entire structure has been renovated and painted and the grounds are being landscaped. The rooms are large and airy and contain comfortable double-decker metal beds, tables, lamps and wardrobes.
Upon their arrival here, the emigrees receive freshly laundered sheets, clean blankets and other necessary bed linen. Their luggage is examined and sprayed with insecticide. Everything is spotless and contains the latest equipment. All menial work at the center is performed by German civilians.
