Eighty-four Polish Jews are now employed on the Polish government staff in Russia, dealing with problems of Polish relief and the care of Polish citizens in the Soviet, it was reported today by the Polish government here in reply to a query made by Dr. Ignacy Schwarzbart on behalf of the representation of Polish Jews in Palestine.
An important post in the central Polish welfare office in Russia is being reserved for a “prominent Polish Jewish personality,” the government spokesman announced. It is thought here that “the prominent personality” referred to is either Dr. Moses Schorr or Dr. Emil Sommerstein, whom the Polish authorities are still attempting to locate in Russia.
Meanwhile, Polish Jewish circles here today were informed that Rabbi Halberstam, the famous “Bobover Rebbe,” has been released by the Soviets. It was also learned here that S. Wolkowicz, a past editor of the Warsaw Jewish daily, Nasz Przeglad has been released in Russia and is safe and well.
