It was revealed here today that 9,629 Germans, 8,629 of them Jews, left Germany in the first three months of 1939 to settle in America or Asia. The number of Jews who left the country had quadrupled in comparison with the same period last year.
Berlin and Vienna recorded the greatest Jewish exodus with 2,559 and 864, respectively. Most Jewish emigrants seeking to settle in the Western Hemisphere did not head for the United States as in previous years but for South American countries.
