There are some 900 Israeli students now studying in the United States, including a number of Israeli Arabs, Y. L. Benor, director general of the Israel Minister of Education, told a press conference here. He said that in all there are 1, 600 Israelis studying abroad.
Mr. Benor, who is visiting this country to make arrangements for more Israelis to come to study here, reported that national Jewish fraternities were making some 40 to 50 scholarships available to Israelis, including board and lodging at fraternity houses. Negotiations are under way with the Institute of International Education for another 30 scholarships, each worth about $3, 000, he reported.
The Israel Government and the Save the Children Federation have concluded an agreement providing for the introduction of the Federation’s school sponsorship program in Israel. Each sponsorship provided through the Federation for Israel will cost $150 and will provide school supplies, recreational equipment and basic clothing materials.
