The Bavarian State Indemnification Agency reported today that during its existence it has paid out the equivalent of $92, 000, 000 in compensation to Nazi victims. Of this sum, more than $28, 000, 000 was paid out last year.
The report was published by Heinz Meir, vice president of the indemnification Agency, who is also chairman of the Association of Jewish Communities in Bavaria. He said that about one-third of the 300, 000 indemnification claims filed with the agency by 160, 000 individual Nazi victims have so far been settled, one way or another. Payments were made partly from Bavarian state funds and partly from federal funds.
