A $20 million gift pledged by a Detroit businessman and owner of the Detroit Pistons basketball team will help establish a center to promote science education at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel. The pledge by William Davidson is believed to be the largest private donation ever received by the research and graduate study center in Rehovot, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this week. Davidson is also a major supporter of the Jewish Theological Seminary.
