A British diplomat who saved as many as 10,000 Jews from the Holocaust deserves official recognition from Israel, according to a British Jewish leader. Lord Janner said Frank Foley should be designated one of the Righteous Among Nations by Jerusalem’s Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial in recognition of Foley’s efforts to rescue Jews from Nazi Germany. As director of the British passport office in Berlin during the 1930s, Foley freely handed out visas to Jews in Germany and sheltered several in his home, Janner said in an open letter to Yad Vashem officials.
