A children’s book about Sholem Aleichem won a Jewish children’s book award. Erica Silverman and Mordicai Gerstein, the author and illustrator of “Sholom’s Treasure: How Sholom Aleichem Became a Writer,” won the 2006 Sydney Taylor Book Award. The picture book for children in children in second through fifth grades chronicles the childhood of the world’s best-known Yiddish writer.
