A congregation near Chicago is hoping to build the country’s first environmentally certified synagogue. The Jewish Reconstructionist Congregation in Evanston, Ill., says it is drawing from Jewish teachings on respecting the environment in building the $6.5 million house of worship according to U.S. Green Building Council specifications, the Chicago Tribune reported.
