A cultural festival celebrating the historical links between Czech, German and Jewish cultures opened in Prague on Tuesday. The nine-day “Nine Gates” Festival, dedicated this year to the 55th birthday of the State of Israel, features musical performances, film screenings, lectures and discussions. Organizers also are holding a commemorative event for victims of the Holocaust in the Prague neighborhood of Holesovice, which served as a transit site to Nazi concentration camps during World War II.
