The Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith yesterday appealed to the United States mission to the United Nations to introduce a resolution before the General Assembly calling for “immediate dispatch of UN observers to Egypt to investigate the plight of its Jews.” In a letter to Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr., head of the American delegation to the UN, Henry Edward Schultz, national chairmen of the ADL, said that his organization had received authoritative evidence that.
1. Over 8,000 Jews are now in concentration camps or under some form of incarceration; 2. Close to 17,000 stateless” Jews have been ordered to leave the country within 30 days, 3. An additional 4,000 Jews, citizens of foreign countries, have been given seven days to leave the country; 4. Jewish property worth almost $100,000,000 has been confiscated or sequestered.
The ADL urged that these observers be asked to report their findings and recommendations to the General Assembly so that the UN could take appropriate action to “bring a halt to the terror being meted out to helpless victims.”
