A delegation of the Comite Central Israelita of Uruguay met with Uruguay’s Interior Minister Manuel Nunez to complain about repeated anti-Semitic activity and anti-Semitic literature being distributed in an open air magazine and book stand in Montevideo, according to a report in La Luz from that city. After the meeting, Uruguayan authorities immediately closed the stand. The Jewish committee also sent a letter of protest to the German rowing club in Montevideo because one of its members charged that the West German Ambassador to Uruguay, Johannes Marre “maintained friendly relations with Jews.”
