A denunciation of Roumania’s Minister of the Interior Goga, for his speech in Parliament on the anti-Jewish excesses, is made by “Der Stral,” Yiddish weekly of Czernowitz, wherein we read (Dec. 10 issue) :
“With a cynical, Cuzist insolence the Minister ridicules the despair and sorrow which have Weighed down Roumanian Jewry as a result of the excesses and the murder of the Jewish student, Falik. And with poetic ecstasy Goga defends the Cuzist murderers. ‘The movement of the students,’ exclaims his Excellency ‘is not a collective insanity. It is an organic movement of the Roumanian nation.’
“No other Minister,” the paper continues “ever insulted the Roumanian nation in this way. No other guardian of the law ever preached the bloody idea of pogroms as Goga does.”
The “Ostjuedische Zeitung,” German organ of the Jews in Czernowitz writes in a similar vein. We read:
“With an unheard of insolence Goga discussed the mourning of the Jews over the murder of David Falik by the anti-Semitic student Totu and the sad echoes of this feeling among the Jews everywhere and from the articles devoted to this subject he deduced that among the Jews of Czernowitz a spirit of revolution prevails. So, with all his oratorical abilities, Goga directed his attack against the Jews and their representatives in Parliament instead of against the party of anti-Semites. On the accusation bench sat not the anti-Semites of Jassy who were the cause of Totu’s act of murder, but the Jews of our state and their representatives. The whole cold hatred of the Minister and the majority was vented upon those who were mourning the victim.”
