The recent outbreak of anti-Semitic violence in Argentina and Uruguay was sharply condemned last night by the New York State American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organization at its annual convention.
Delegates to the convention also called on the governments of the two countries to take “vigorous steps” to prevent any renewal of the incidents, which have included physical attacks on Jews, stoning and shootings at Jewish establishments, distribution of anti-Semitic material and scrawling of swastikas on streets and buildings.
“We express our great concern and outrage at the spread of Nazi-type activities and incidents that have occurred in the last two months in both Argentina and Uruguay. We feel that these outbursts of violence constitute a real threat to the freedom and well-being of the entire Argentine and Uruguayan nations,” the resolution said.
The resolution also condemned “the attitude of those authorities in Argentina and Uruguay who have been minimizing the danger and defending the very organizations that are responsible for the outrages.”
