A fervently Orthodox member of an Israeli committee dealing with the issue of drafting yeshiva students into the army has reportedly received threats. The Israeli daily Ha’aretz reported that extremist elements in the fervently Orthodox sector had threatened Rabbi Asher Tanenbaum that his standing as chairman of the Committee of Religious Seminaries could be revoked if he signed recommendations that yeshiva students be drafted.
