A former German Jewish leader discovered he had been assigned police guards with neo-Nazi affiliations. Michel Friedman, who served as vice president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany from 2001 to 2003, said Wednesday that a state investigation had revealed that some of his police bodyguards were secretly neo-Nazis. The discovery came in the course of an internal fraud probe. “This is devastating for me,” Friedman, 51, told Reuters. “One has to imagine it, how these men who were supposed to protect me from Nazis had the same mentality.”
