A former Knesset member was among five people arrested on suspicion of involvement in starting a fire at the Tel Aviv Cultural Center in 1996 in order to file insurance claims on pieces of art stored there. Shmuel Flatto-Sharon, who denied the allegations against him, avoided extradition to France in 1977 to face fraud charges after he was elected to the Knesset on an independent ticket.
