A former Latvian government minister is coming under fire for saying that Latvians should stop apologizing for the Holocaust. The Union of Councils for Jews in the Former Soviet Union criticized Ziedonis Chevers, the country’s former internal affairs minister, for saying last week that Latvia “should not bow down” to the Simon Wiesenthal Center, which has called on the Baltic nation to improve its prosecution of alleged Nazi collaborators.
