A former member of the far-right National Bolshevik Party was sentenced to four years in prison by a Russian court.
According to testimony from another National Bolshevik who is cooperating with the prosecution, Vyacheslav Rusakov planned to blow up Jewish community centers and the local headquarters of the federal security service, according to the daily newspaper Kommersant.
Rusakov was arrested along with accomplices in 2004 by police who reportedly found several artillery shells in their possession. Rusakov confessed to weapons possession and the preparation of explosives but prosecutors later dropped charges of terrorism against him.
Some human rights activists have questioned the series of cases against National Bolsheviks recently opened by the government in light of the group’s prominence in opposition protests.
