A former U.S. ambassador to Israel said the United States will increase its involvement in the Middle East. “What the United States wants Israel to do now is calm the situation, and that’s very hard to do when Israel is being provoked by terrorist attacks,” said Martin Indyk, who served as U.S. ambassador to Israel until last summer. Speaking at a dinner hosted Monday in Washington by the Jewish Agency for Israel, Indyk said he believed a new initiative by the United States would help Israel control violence.
