A former U.S. senator was appointed to the council overseeing the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. Rudy Boschwitz served as the Republican senator from Minnesota for 12 years and rose to become Senate majority leader. Boschwitz, a Jew who was born in Berlin, left Germany in 1933 when Hitler came to power and emigrated to the United States.
