A French state prosecutor asked a court to sentence extreme-right leader Jean- Marie Le Pen to three months in prison and ban him from public office for two years on charges he assaulted a female politician during a legislative campaign last year. The 69-year-old Le Pen, who has made numerous anti-Semitic statements in the past, went on trial last week for allegedly grabbing a Socialist candidate by the collar of her blouse and shaking her violently while campaigning last May for his daughter, Caroline.
