A group of former U.S. ambassadors and State Department officials urged President Bush to become more engaged in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict because solving the conflict would hamper enemies of the United States looking for recruits for further terrorist actions. “Until Palestinians and Israelis can live normal lives,” the ambassadors wrote, “Americans, too, are unlikely to be assured a return to domestic security and tranquility.”
