A group of Israeli intellectuals of Iraqi descent created an association to express support for the Iraqi people. Founders of the group said they were making a distinction between the people and government of Iraq. One member said in an interview the group believed that joint activities with opponents of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein could lead to a change in the Baghdad regime and to Iraq’s eventual inclusion in the Middle East peace process.
