A group of Israeli rabbis led by former Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Avraham Shapira issued a rabbinical ruling declaring the Golan Heights an integral part of Israel. The ruling, issued this week by the Union of Rabbis for the Land of Israel, claims that the Golan was in Jewish hands at the time of the First and Second Temples.
