A group of Palestinian legislators met with U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and other American lawmakers in Washington. Ahmed Karia, the head of the Palestinian legislative council, said he hoped the talks would lead to closer ties with the staunchly pro-Israel Congress. Gingrich invited the legislators to Washington when he visited Israel and the Palestinian self-rule areas in May.
