A Hungarian-born rabbi, Itzhak Zvi Bernfeld, has been appointed leader of the Orthodox Jewish community here. Rabbi Bernfeld, who is descended from a prominent rabbinical family, was educated in Hungary and in Jerusalem. He served for a time as a rabbi in Melbourne, Australia.
