Leaders from 38 major cities in the United States will convene in Chicago tomorrow night and Sunday at an executive committee meeting of the American Jewish Committee to discuss major problems of concern to American Jews.
Jacob Blaustein, A.J.C. president, will discuss developments on the international scene regarding the settlement of the political problems of Israel and their impact on American Jews. Another major subject under consideration will be cooperation with non-sectarian agencies concerned with intergroup relations. Internal problems of the Jewish community will also be discussed.
A petition for a review by the United States Supreme Court to determine the constitutionality of the expatriation clause in the Nationality Act of 1940 was urged by the Committee in a brief filed as a “friend of the court” in Washington. In urging the Supreme Court to grant a writ of certiorari, the Committee contended that the provision is unconstitutional because it sets up distinctions between native-born and naturalized citizens.
