A jailed Palestinian militant began a hunger strike in a Jericho jail. Ahmed Sa’adat, leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, launched the strike to protest his continued detention despite a Palestinian High Court ruling that he should be freed, reports said. Sa’adat is being held under U.S. and British supervision. The Palestinian Authority had welcomed the High Court ruling, but said it could not be implemented because of concern of Israeli reprisals.
