A Jewish candidate in Argentina overcame anti-Semitic advertisements to win a regional election. Jose Alperovich was elected governor of northern Tucuman province Sunday. During the campaign, Alperovich was called a “traitor” for opposing an article of the province’s Constitution that requires provincial governors to swear allegiance to “God, the Fatherland and the Christian saints.”
