A Jewish Olympic sailor from New Zealand failed to medal after leading at the halfway point.
Jo Aleh, 22, was ahead in the women’s laser radial competition over the weekend, but she finished ninth in the medal race Tuesday in Qingdao and seventh overall.
Aleh was born in New Zealand after her Israeli father and Kiwi mother who had made aliyah moved to Auckland.
Also Tuesday, Australia’s only Jewish Olympian, David Zalcberg, was ousted from the table tennis singles competition by Vietnam’ s Kien Quoc Doan, 4-0. In the team matches last week, Zalcberg and his partner lost their three matches.
Zalcberg is a survivor of the 1997 Maccabiah Games bridge collapse in Israel.
