A Knesset education subcommittee is to propose the establishment of a national council for research and documentation of the heritage of Jews of Middle Eastern or Oriental background. Its purpose, according to subcommittee chairman Haviv Shimoni of the Labor Alignment, will be the enrichment of Israeli culture and incorporation of material on Middle Eastern Jews into the elementary school curriculum.
