A leading U.S. Jewish group criticized U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan for calling Israel’s response to Palestinian violence “excessive.” Annan, who made the comment at an Arab summit in Jordan, “would have accomplished more for the sake of peace by focusing on the source of Palestinian violence and those responsible for it,” the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations said.
