A Lebanese diplomat was elected last Wednesday President of the UNESCO Executive Council for 1973. Fuad Sarruf, President of the Lebanese National Commission for UNESCO, was chosen over the Finnish delegate, Ilmo Hela, by a vote of 35-2. The 72-year-old diplomat received his higher education at the American University of Beirut and was its vice-president for 15 years. Sarruf has published more than 30 books written in Arabic and has collaborated with the Egyptian newspaper. A1 Ahram.
