A Likud veteran said Israel’s ruling party likely would back a West Bank withdrawal if Ariel Sharon proposed one. “Such a redeployment would be painful, but Sharon thinks it would create a much better situation for Israel,” Yuval Steinitz, head of the Knesset’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, told Israel Radio on Wednesday.
