The German government of Hesse province in the American zone has been ordered by the military government to cease evicting displaced Jews from homes there, it was learned here today. The order followed an investigation by military government officials and representatives of the Central Jewish Committee.
The Germans claimed they were evicting the DP’s on the basis of an earlier military government directive which required them to evict displaced persons who entered the province after June 30, 1946. Investigation determined that the order was being misinterpreted, either intentionally or unintentionally, because it specifically applied to nationals of members of the United Nations who had been evicted from camps for political reasons.
