A man who firebombed a New York synagogue on the eve of Yom Kippur was sentenced to jail. Mazin Assi, 23, of Yonkers, received the maximum five to 15 years in jail May 1 under New York’s new hate crimes law for bombing Riverdale’s Adath Israel shul in October 2000.
