A Maryland man became the first rabbi to receive a prestigious papal honor. Mordecai Waxman, 81, was named Knight Commander of St. Gregory the Great, and honor that dates back to 1831 and was originally given to defenders of the Papal States. The award was presented at a meeting of Catholic bishops and Reform and Conservative rabbis.
