A mass meeting of mourning over the Palestine events was held in the City Hall Sunday. A solemn protest was lodged against the Palestine atrocities.
Three thousand Jews marched through the streets of the city to the Great Synagogue where memorial services were held. A delegation representing the Board of Deputies and Zionist Federation visited Prime Minister Hertzog, requesting the South African government to send the meeting’s resolution to the British government.
Today, Sept. 4, designated in the Jewish calendar as the “small Yom Kippur” will be observed as a day of fast and prayer in Jewish communities throughout the United states and in Europe. The call for the fast day was issued by the Union of Orthodox Rabbis in New York, and other rabbinical bodies. Services will be held in synagogues throughout the city and in all other Jewish communities.
