A member of Israel’s secularist Meretz Party who advocated dialogue with Orthodox leaders failed to get a spot on the party’s roster of Knesset candidates for the may elections. Dedi Zucker caused a storm in the party when he met with members of the fervently Orthodox Shas Party to discuss a new approach to religious-secular issues dividing Israeli society. “I proposed that Meretz draft a new secular approach, less drastic and less ignoring of other sectors in society,” he said.
