A military appeals court in Rome sentenced former Nazi officer Erich Priebke and Karl Hass to life imprisonment for their part in Italy’s worst World War II massacre. The ruling came as a stunning revision of earlier verdicts regarding the two men’s participation in the 1944 massacre of 335 men and boys at the Ardeatine caves near Rome. About 75 of the victims were Jews.
