A million school children had an unscheduled call day off Tuesday as teachers staged on afternoon strike to protest the government’s refusal to pay them an additional cost-of-living allowance. Although a special committee ruled that the teachers should receive the extra payment, Finance Minister Yigal Hurwitz said he wants them to wait until the end of the school year because “we do not have the money.”
