A Moslem political action committee representing 40 local and national Islamic associations in Canada has issued a letter attacking Joe Clark, leader of the Progressive Conservatives, saying his proposed recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital has “put a stab in the hearts of Moslems.” Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, however, has called the Clark statement irresponsible and therefore the committee is recommending support for the Liberal Party in the election May 22. Such statements have come from Arabic groups before but this new statement may represent a growing politicization of multi-ethnic Islamic groups, embracing Pakistanis, Croats, Bosnians and others in Canada, observers said.
