A new compact disk compilation of music by a World War II-era Jewish jazz musician was released. “In Defiance of Fate,” featuring 26 compositions by Czech musician Fritz Weiss, reflects the Nazi politics of the time that banned jazz. The Nazis called it “Judeo-negroid” music. Weiss’ music, arranged between 1939 and 1941, was released by the Jewish museum in Prague as part of its effort to track down Jewish artists. “Weiss was a man who tried to live a normal life under absolutely abnormal circumstances; he just refused to acknowledge them,” said Leo Pavlat, director of the museum.
