A new documentary examines the 2003 controversy over a pro-Palestinian conference at Rutgers University. “Beyond Inspiration” opened to a Rutgers audience last week. The film is directed and produced by alumnus David Aslan, who began work on the film for his senior thesis. The film uses interviews and original footage to portray the controversy over the Palestine Solidarity Movement’s proposed conference at Rutgers, and how statements by local PSM leader Charlotte Kates in support of killing Israeli civilians led to a split in the group.
