A new Web site will create comprehensive, interactive online memorials.
Yizkor.com is a free initiative that permits a family administrator to capture the history and impact of a loved one. It can include a biography, timeline, photos, videos, family tree and funeral information. Family and friends can visit the site and contribute stories and memories, or “leave a stone.â€
Yizkor.com, named for the memorial prayer, was inspired by Tikva, a Ukrainian orphanage that cares for 200 of the world’s poorest Jewish children.
“Whether orphaned or abandoned,†says Joseph Markovitz, Yizkor.com director, “these children have few if any ties to parents or family. They have no connection to their past and consequently no legacy for their future. It is their story that inspired us to turn to the Internet to create a repository for permanent online memorials.â€
