A Palestinian presidential hopeful accused Israeli troops of beating him at a checkpoint. Mustafa Barghouti, one of 10 Palestinians running to succeed the late Yasser Arafat as Palestinian Authority president in Jan. 9 elections in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, said soldiers detained and beat him as he left Jenin during a campaign trip Wednesday.
