A Palestinian security firm owned by a former Israeli Arab police officer began patrolling eastern Jerusalem. The company received permission from Israel to fight crime as long as it does not break any agreements between the Jewish state and the Palestinian Authority, according to a spokesman for the firm, Jerusalem Security Services. Under the terms of the Oslo accords, Israeli police have jurisdiction over eastern Jerusalem until the status of the city is decided in final-status talks.
