A Palestinian was shot dead during a battle between Israeli troops and Palestinian gunmen near Rachel’s Tomb, a shrine at the entrance to Bethlehem in the West Bank. The battle took place as Israeli officials said violence in the West Bank and Gaza Strip had dropped by as much as 40 percent since a truce was reached last week.
