A peace process with the Palestinians is crucial for Israel’s economic health, Ehud Olmert said.
“One of the determining factors behind continued economic growth in Israel and the impressive economic stability we achieved in recent years has been the existence of a diplomatic horizon,” the Israeli prime minister told a business conference in Tel Aviv on Monday.
Olmert, who pledged to revive peace talks with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas at last month’s Annapolis peace conference, also credited Israel’s security forces with boosting international confidence in the economy.
“Achievements in the war on terror, mainly in purging it from our city centers, as well has hope for a peace process, have bought Israel a respectable place in the global economy,” he said.
